Absolutely! My kids introduced me to the band with that tune, and they do a great job. Hey--there's a topic: bands that do covers of Dead tunes...

Yeah, the Janes Addiction version of Ripple is without a doubt the BEST cover of a Dead tune ever with Cracker's Loser ( not on Dedicated I know, it's on Kerosene hat )being second. Most of the times it seems the songs are a flat version of the original with no imagination. Oh and I'm still pissed about the Indigo Girls changed the lyric in Uncle John's, I mean if your offended then fine but why not pick a DIFFERENT song?

never been a fan of the carbon-copy-cover. i remember reading somewhere garcia specifcally praising jane's interpretation of ripple. i'm all but sure it was because they took a risk and shook it the hell up.

me either ESPECIALLY if on an album. I mean live is one thing but to put it on an album it better be special in it's own right imo. I love the way Janes did Ripple where it builds and builds and the cool percussion that band used.

really???? now i would like to hear that (you know no sarcasm there my friend) how could i hear that - a female voice to that song would be refreshing to say the least.

wake of the dead would be cool too, but far more intersted in jess's stella

my man, she is from the bat cave scene not the lot. but she fell hard for that tune. hook, line and sinker (who hasn't) i have asked time and time to set up a cond. mic and leave the house, nothin, YET. maybe when i make those highflow specials on saturday... i kid you not she does the tune proud. both delicate enough & wolrd weary (the latter, she ain't).

if i capture it, i'll share!

tell her there are non-judgmental kind folk out here who love the female voice (huge sarah mclachlan fan) - you know me, i know she doesn't so i understand - wish she would trust me - i know you do - would really love to hear it. but i respect her privacy - i understand exactly where she is coming from - i am very private with my playing too. so i cant complain. would love to be a private audience though if you could convince her. enough from me - peace

Off the top of my head these come instantly to mind:

Cracker does a good job on Loser (you can take the band out of Santa Cruz, but you can't take Santa Cruz out of the band. . .)
Elvis Costello does Ship of Fools, Loser (as someone recently posted), To Lay Me Down, and probably others I'm forgetting since he was so close to Jerry
Willie Nelson does a great version of Stella Blue on his latest ablum (with help from Ryan Adams, who Phils sees a bit of Jerry in)
Los Lobos often plays Bertha (as mentioned above)
